CHAPTER III. ANIMALS AND FOWLCHAPTER III. ANIMALS AND FOWL\ARTICLE 11. IMPOUND, REDEMPTION AND DISPOSITION OF ANIMALS

Unless the Animal obtained pursuant to this Chapter is being held as an evidentiary subject of a pending prosecution, the Owner of the Animal shall have a maximum of three (3) days after the Animal is taken into custody to claim the Animal.  The City shall make a reasonable attempt to locate and notify the Owner once the Animal is impounded.

All boarding fees, veterinarian fees, impoundment fees and permit fees, where required, must be paid to the City prior to claiming an Animal. The impoundment fees are as follows:

(1)   $10.00 upon first redemption of the Animal.

(2)   $20.00 upon second redemption of the Animal.

(3)   $30.00 upon third of subsequent redemption of the Animal.

If the Owner of any Animal which comes into the custody of the City pursuant to the provisions of this Chapter shall fail to make arrangements to care for such Animal within three (3) days of the time the City takes possession of the Animal, the Animal may be turned over to an Animal shelter or licensed veterinarian for sale, adoption or other disposition or destroyed as an abandoned Animal, in accordance with applicable City ordinances, unless the Owner files a bond or deposit equal to thirty (30) days of care and treatment. The Owner shall be required to update the bond or other deposit as necessary.
