CHAPTER XXI. TRAFFICCHAPTER XXI. TRAFFIC\ARTICLE 6. SCHOOL ZONES

Based upon traffic flow studies and engineering investigation of the streets normally used by school students enroute to and from the schools of the city, the portions of the named streets set forth in this Article below are designated as school zones and subject to reduced speed limits during the hours designated for each zone.

South Breeze School zones shall be as follows:

Old Main Street beginning at a point 100 feet North of the North right-of-way line of S.E. 10th Street, thence South 506 feet.

S.E. 10th Street beginning at the East right-of-way line of Old Main Street, thence East 610 feet.

The reduced speed limit for the South Breeze School zone shall be from 7:30 a.m. to 8:15 a.m., from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p. m., and from 2:45 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Monday through Friday during the school year as designated by the Board of Education for Unified School District No. 373, and at such other times as to a particular zone as a school zone flashing beacon is operating.

Northridge School zones shall be as follows:

Windsor Drive beginning at the Southerly right-of-way line of Normandy Road, thence Southeasterly 650 feet.

Normandy Road beginning at the Westerly right-of-way line of Windsor Drive, thence Southwesterly 650 feet.

Old 81 Highway beginning at a point 30 feet Southeasterly of the Southerly right-of-way line of Normandy Road, thence Southeasterly 862 feet.

The reduced speed limit for the Northridge School zone shall be from 7:30 a.m. to 8:15 a.m., from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p. m., and from 2:45 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Monday through Friday during the school year as designated by the Board of Education for Unified School District No. 373, and at such other times as to a particular zone as a school zone flashing beacon is operating.

Sunset School zones shall be as follows:

West Broadway beginning at a point 375 feet West of the West right-of-way line of Boyd Avenue North of Broadway, thence East 725 feet.

West 5th Street beginning at a point 250 feet West of the West right-of-way line of Boyd Avenue, thence East 560 feet.

Boyd Avenue beginning at the North right-of-way line of West 5th Street to the South right-of-way line of West Broadway.

The reduced speed limit for the Sunset School zone shall be from 7:30 a.m. to 8:15 a.m., from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and from 2:45 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Monday through Friday during the school year as designated by the Board of Education for Unified School District No. 373, and at such other times as to a particular zone as a school zone flashing beacon is operating.

Slate Creek School zones shall be as follows:

East First Street beginning at a point 250 feet West of the West right-of-way line of South Duncan Street, thence East 500 feet.

East Broadway beginning at a point 250 feet East of the East right-of-way line of North Duncan Street, thence West 560 feet.

North High Street beginning at a point 250 feet South of the South right-of-way line of East 4th Street, thence North 580 feet.

East Fourth Street beginning at a point 250 feet West of the West right-of-way line of North Duncan Street, thence East to a point 250 feet East of the East right-of-way line of North Blaine Street.

The reduced speed limit for the Slate Creek School zone shall be from 7:30 a.m. to 8:15 a.m., from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and from 2:45 p. m. to 3:30 p.m. for all school zones not on First Street, and 2:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. for school zones located on First Street, on Monday through Friday during the school year as designated by the Board of Education for Unified School District No. 373, and at such other times as to a particular zone as a school zone flashing beacon is operating.

Newton High School zone shall be as follows:

West Twelfth Street beginning at a point 155 feet East of Anderson Road centerline, thence to a point 190 feet West of the centerline of Boyd Avenue.

The reduced speed limit for the Newton High School zone shall be from 7:30 a. m. to 8:15 a.m. and from 2:45 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Monday through Friday during the school year as designated by the Board of Education for Unified School District No. 373, and at such other times as to a particular zone as a school zone flashing beacon is operating.

The City Engineer may designate and maintain by appropriate devices, marks or lines on the surface of the roadway, crosswalks at intersections where in his or her opinion there is particular danger to pedestrians crossing the roadway and at such other places as may be deemed necessary. The City Engineer may also establish and mark safety zones of such kind and character and at such places as may be deemed necessary for the protection of pedestrians.
