There is hereby levied and assessed an occupation tax on the callings, trades, businesses, avocations, professions or occupations hereinafter named in the following sums, respectively.

Each street peddler, hawker or vendor of any description shall pay an occupation tax as follows:
(a) Each peddler, as hereinafter defined, shall pay an occupation tax of $5 per day.
(b) The term “peddler” as used in this section, shall include any person, firm or corporation whether as owner, agent, consignor or employee, and whether a resident of the city or not, who, on a temporary basis, travels by foot or vehicle from place to place, house to house, or from street to street within the city, conveying, carrying or transporting goods, wares and merchandise of any description, and offers and exposes the same for sale, or who, without so traveling from place to place, shall sell or offer the same for sale from a vehicle, trailer or other conveyance, or who, in either event, offers the same in return for donations. The term Peddler shall include Hawker and Huckster. Representatives of religious, charitable youth groups, or educational organizations having an established place of activity in the city shall not be included in the term peddler.

Any person who shall violate any of the provisions of this article shall upon conviction thereof be fined in a sum not to exceed $100 and each day of violation shall be deemed a separate offense.
