A CHARTER ORDINANCE EXEMPTING THE CITY OF NEWTON, KANSAS FROM THE PROVISIONS OF KS.A. 25-2303, 25-2309 AND 25-2709 AND AMENDMENTS THERETO.

Section 1. Exemption. The City of Newton, by virtue of the power vested in it by Article 12, Section 5 of the constitution of the State of Kansas, hereby elects to and does exempt itself and make inapplicable to it KS.A. 25-2303, 25-2309 and 25-2709 and amendment thereto, which apply to this city but do not apply uniformly to all cities.

Section 2. Publication. This charter ordinance shall be published once each week for two consecutive weeks in the official city newspaper.

Section 3. Effective Date. This charter ordinance shall take effect 61 days after final publication unless a sufficient petition for a referendum is filed, requiring a referendum to be held on the ordinance as provided in Article 12, Section 5 of the constitution of the State of Kansas, in which case this charter ordinance shall become effective upon approval by a majority of the electros voting thereon.
